On September 17, 1999 I went with the Tarentum VFW Post 5758 to the Pittsburgh Pirates game to honor the WWII POW's who returned home and also to honor all of the POW/MIA's. These are my pictures from the field of Three Rivers Stadium. |

This is me and the members of the Tarentum VFW Post 5758. The only ones to notice my mom taking this picture was me and Vice Commander Dan Wolfe. |

This is the whole group as we took the field. All of the members of Post 5758 are on the right side of the picture. I was standing with the Post's WWII returned POW, Ray (he has on the blue jacket). |

This is a good shot of Ray, Commander Stephen Willison (in the camo), Vice Commander Dan Wolfe and Ladies Auxiliary Sectetary Brenda Wolfe (all looking at the camera). I missed the camera on this one though. |

This was the color guard that presented the colors while we proudly sang The Star Spangled Banner. |

Then, to make the weekend complete, I was a part of the opening ceremony, the candlelight vigil, the closing ceremony and I even had the chance to take a turn at holding the American Flag during the vigil on September 18 & 19, 1999. Here are the pictures. |

This is Mr. Dugan. I made my mom call him and ask if there was anything that I could do to help. He said "Sure, come down and you can hold The American Flag". We went to the opening ceremony and I thought that is what I was going to do, but instead, Mr. Dugan called me on stage, introduced me to everyone and told them about all of the work I have been doing for the POW/MIA's. This was a big suprise. I didn't know he was going to do that. It was an honor I will never forget. Afterwards, all of the Veterans were thanking me and giving me pins for my hat. I was so proud and so suprised! |

This is a list of some of the POW/MIA's from Pennsylvania. On this list is Patrick M. Fallon, Richard J. Lacey and Arlie R. Mangus, my adopted POW/MIA's |

These are the Goldstar Mothers that I worked with at the Moving Wall. They also took their turn holding The American Flag. I was glad to see them again. |

And then came my turn....... |

I don't think that I could ever say that one thing I have done or person I have met or something I have learned is more important or special than the other, but being on the field at Three Rivers Stadium and then being able to take part in the POW/MIA Vigil by holding The American Flag will always be my proudest moments. |

I would like to tell everyone how thankful I am to Commander Stephen Willison, Vice Commander Dan Wolfe, Ladies Auxiliary Secretary Brenda Wolfe, of the Tarentum VFW Post 5758, and Mr. John Devlin for everything they have done for me, allowed me to do, have showed me and have taught me. They have become an important part of my life and because of them I know that I must carry the torch so that my generation will always remember what the Veterans have done for us and to continue to fight for our POW/MIA's. I would also like to thank the VVI of Pittsburgh for allowing me to be a part of the POW/MIA Vigil at Point State Park, which meant so much to me. And to Doc, I don't know what I could say that I haven't already! Although I haven't been able to meet him personally, he too is an important part of my life and it means so much to me to be able to share everything I am doing with Doc. All of you are very special to me and I am a better person because you are a part of my life! |
