Rolling Thunder XVII
Of course the Monday after Rolling Thunder is Memorial Day and we always attend the
Ceremony at The Wall and we take some time to visit the Memorials.
After the Services at
The Wall, I stopped for
a few minutes to talk
to Jan Scruggs, the
founder of The Wall.
We stopped long
enough to take a
picture too!!
The keynote speaker at The Wall was Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge (my former
Governor!!) and I just had to get a picture with him.  It was by order of Governor Ridge that I
received the PA Medal of Commendation and he is a Vietnam Veteran too!!
Then, Natalie and I were off to the WWII Memorial.  This was the weekend that  it was
dedicated and it was an honor to be there and to be able to meet so many WWII
Veterans!! The Memorial is beautiful and I was a little sad to know that Mr. Kridlo wasn't
alive to know that our nation finally dedication a Memorial to our WWII Veteans.
We had to take this picture at the WWII Memorial....of course it's our home state!!
Our last stop before heading home was the "In Memory" plaque that has now been
dedicated by The Wall.  This plaque honors those who served in Vietnam, but died after the
war was over as a result of their service.  Their name might not be on The Wall, but we
honor their service!!
AFTERTHOUGHT:  Rolling Thunder is one of the greatest events that I have ever attended
and I've now been honored by attending for the past five years.  As long as we have service
members who have not come home, Veterans who need benefits and troops who are
protecting our country, I will be there every year until I am no longer needed.  If you have
never been to Washington D.C. I couldn't think of a better time to go......if you have never
been to Rolling Thunder all I can say is what are you waiting for???
America raised them, America wants them back!!!
